Google Search Console AI Report Not Showing? 7 Checks
Cannot find the Generative AI Performance report, see an empty chart, or find an expected page? Identify what is actually missing, run seven evidence-based checks, and make a copyable investigation record without mistaking unavailable data for zero.
Seven checks before you conclude AI reporting is broken
These checks are intentionally ordered: establish the property and source of a value before interpreting the number. The diagnostic below is an investigation aid; it does not connect to your private Search Console account, change a Google setting, or reveal undisclosed report thresholds.
1. Confirm the selected property, your access, and the reporting surface
Open Search Console. Record whether you selected a Domain property or a URL-prefix property, including its exact protocol and path. Check the Performance navigation for the dedicated Generative AI report for Search. Separately inspect the Generative AI report for Discover if Discover is the surface you are investigating. Neither is the ordinary Web Search Performance report.
Observe: Is the dedicated report absent from the menu, does it open without a number, or are you reading data from a different report? A missing report for one property says nothing conclusive about another property. If you do not have access to the intended property or cannot inspect its settings, ask an authorized owner to verify those facts. Do not grant unnecessary elevated permissions solely to investigate a missing chart.
2. Treat worldwide rollout and property-level visibility as separate facts
Google's Search report help page states that insights rolled out worldwide on August 31, 2026. Its same Not seeing the report? section still mentions property access and insufficient generative-AI impressions. Google does not publish a numeric minimum you can use to force the report to appear. An absent tab alone is not evidence of a penalty, an indexing defect, or a known minimum-impression failure. Check Google's current wording and record the unresolved state when it does not explain your property.
Observe: If the correct property is selected but the dedicated report remains absent, move to the effective inclusion check. If the necessary settings are inaccessible, record that limitation rather than claiming the property is Included.
3. Check the effective Search generative AI control, not just the visible label
Go to Settings → Search generative AI in the authorized property. Google documents Include, Exclude, and Inherit. If the property says Inherit, identify the closest parent with an explicitly configured control; it is not always the top-level domain. If no closer parent explicitly overrides inheritance, check the top-level domain property's choice. When you cannot inspect the effective parent, the correct finding is unknown. Google's inheritance documentation.
example.com is set to Include; https://example.com/blog/ is explicitly set to Exclude; https://example.com/blog/guides/ inherits. The child follows the closer, explicitly configured blog parent, not the domain-wide Include choice.Observe: Exclude affects inclusion in supported AI features, not the menu's existence. Include does not turn the report on or guarantee impressions. Google says changes can take time to propagate, so historic impressions may coexist with an Exclude setting seen today. Record when any setting changed before drawing a contradiction. Never change a deliberate publisher policy merely to make a reporting widget appear.
4. Verify the date range, the number's source, and the actual metric
Record the reporting period and whether the number came from Generative AI Search, Generative AI Discover, ordinary Web Search, the export, or another dashboard. The Search AI report's dates use Pacific Time; the newest data may be preliminary. Google's reports do not include Search Labs experiments. A number from ordinary Web Search cannot be relabeled as dedicated AI impressions. Read Google's included-data and date rules.
Observe: A value from a different reporting surface is not proof that a missing report has data. If the control currently says Exclude but the impressions were recorded before the exclusion, compare the dates and allow for propagation instead of declaring the evidence inconsistent.
5. For a missing page, investigate the page-level view
If the property-wide report is available but a specific page does not appear, check the selected property, active filters, final URL after redirects, and Google's selected canonical URL. In the Search AI report, the chart is aggregated by property while the Pages table is aggregated by page. Google also applies reporting limits, including a 1,000-row limit to the table. Missing a page row does not prove that the entire property is ineligible or that the page received exactly zero AI impressions. See Google's page attribution and aggregation rules.
Observe: Record the canonical, target URL, filters, and whether the page is absent from a limited table or actually displays a numeric value. Canonical and row-limit checks address a page discrepancy, not a report missing from navigation.
6. Preserve unavailable values and avoid false conversion calculations
Google says ~ or - displayed as unavailable in its AI report can be exported as 0. A downloaded zero is therefore not automatically an observed zero. Preserve the original UI state and note the export source. In the Search AI report, a property-level chart and page-aggregated table can legitimately differ. The Discover AI report is separately page-aggregated: do not merge these surfaces into one improvised AI exposure total. Search aggregation and exports · Discover aggregation.
| Original view | Downloaded value | Sound interpretation |
|---|---|---|
UI shows ~ or - | 0 | Unavailable; keep the original status, not a confirmed numeric zero. |
UI displays an actual numeric 0 | 0 | Observed zero for this exact report, filter, and period. |
| Original UI state not recorded | 0 | Ambiguous; inspect the original source if possible. |
The dedicated AI report does not currently show separately attributed AI-only clicks, queries, CTR, or conversions. Ordinary Web Search clicks divided by AI-report impressions is not a valid AI CTR calculation. For ordinary Web Search query visibility, see our guide to missing Search Console keywords; its query-report problem is distinct from the dedicated AI report's metric scope.
7. Document the unresolved case and choose an appropriate next action
Record the symptom, exact property type (or leave its name out), report surface, reporting dates, source of the displayed value, original UI state, effective inclusion setting, and which checks were actually completed. Compare unexpected historical changes with Google's Search Console data anomalies guidance before assuming a content or ranking change. If the cause remains unclear, use the report's feedback route or Search Central community with appropriately redacted observations. Google notes that feedback is for improving the product and may not receive an individualized response.
Observe: If you cannot prove the underlying cause, write “unresolved.” Do not instruct a site owner to remove a deliberate Exclude setting, alter canonicals, or rebuild content solely to make a report appear.
AI Report Diagnostic & Evidence Builder 2.0
Select the exact symptom, identify where an observed value came from, and record only facts you can verify. The tool checks contradictions before presenting a provisional finding. It keeps your inputs in this browser page; it does not request access to Search Console or transmit property data.
Examples use fictional properties and illustrative observations, not actual inspected accounts. Each button populates the form and runs the same validation as an ordinary submission.
Five reproducible cases: What the diagnostic should return
These are fictional test inputs. Use the Load example buttons in the tool to reproduce each decision. Successful execution verifies the tool's logic, not the state of any actual Google property.
| Test case | Recorded observations | Required response |
|---|---|---|
| A · Contradiction | Dedicated Search report absent; positive number claimed from the same report. | Stop. Ask the reader to verify the property, menu state, period, and value source. Do not produce a diagnosis. |
| B · Unknown parent | URL-prefix property, missing report, Inherit, parent control unknown. | Effective inclusion remains unknown. Check the closest explicitly configured parent; report availability unresolved. |
| C · Exported zero | Export zero, original UI showed ~. | Keep the original status as unavailable. An exported zero cannot establish zero AI impressions. |
| D · Historical observations | Current Exclude control, earlier AI impressions, old data predates current setting. | Review the control change date and propagation. Do not automatically classify the historic data as inconsistent. |
| E · Missing page row | Property AI report visible; page row absent; source value from property chart. | Page-level investigation: canonical, filters, row limit and aggregation. Do not classify the property as ineligible. |
Which report should you use?
| Report | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Generative AI: Search | Reportable impressions on supported Search AI features; supported dimensions and selected period. | Dedicated AI-only clicks, queries, CTR, conversions, or a guaranteed count of every brand mention. |
| Generative AI: Discover | Reportable Discover AI impressions using Discover's reporting and aggregation rules. | Search AI Mode visibility or a directly comparable property-level Search impression total. |
| Ordinary Web Search Performance | Supported clicks, queries, impressions and other Web Search metrics. | An independent AI-only click total or proof that a missing dedicated report should exist. |
| Downloaded export | Exported values for the selected report and filters. | Whether an exported zero represented an unavailable original UI cell unless the original state was saved. |

For a separate Search Console feature with its own eligibility and visibility rules, see the branded queries filter guide. The new article should retain its own narrow missing-report troubleshooting intent.
Frequently asked questions
Does a missing Generative AI report mean Google penalized my site?
No penalty conclusion follows from the missing report alone. Google's current help page lists report availability and eligible impression volume as possible explanations. Record actual indexing or policy evidence separately if you have it.
Will selecting Include make my AI report appear?
No guaranteed outcome. Include concerns participation in supported AI experiences. It is not a report activation control, and it does not guarantee impressions or a visible performance chart. Respect the site's chosen publication policy.
What if the URL-prefix property inherits Exclude from a parent?
Check the closest parent property with an explicit non-inherited setting. A closer URL-prefix parent can override the domain property's choice for its children. An uninspected parent's effective setting must remain unknown.
Why can my Pages table show fewer impressions than the chart?
In the Search AI report, the default chart aggregates by property, while the Pages table aggregates by page. Filtering and row limits also matter. Record both scopes before comparing them.
Does the Search Console API recover a missing dedicated AI report?
Do not assume so. The documented ordinary Search Analytics API is not an established method for bypassing dedicated Generative AI report availability or obtaining unpublished AI-only click metrics.
Can Google-Extended enable my Search AI report?
No. Google's Search generative AI participation control is separate from model-training controls. Neither is a switch that forces a reporting tab to appear.
